Background
A school may request the district file a truancy petition with the court. This request typically follows non-compliance with an Agreed Order.
File a Petition Request
- Hover over Action Board, then select Unexcused.
- Click File Petition.
- Click File Complaint (for an individual student).
- A petition filing window appears. It contains three tabs:
- Student Details
- File Folder
- History

- In the Student Details tab.
- In the New Referral drop-down, select the appropriate Attendance Officer.
- In the Response drop-down, select the semester covered by the petition.
- At the bottom of the screen, check Send request to Attendance Officer (AO).
- Three options are presented. Press the button that represents your intended action.
- Case Dismissal Request: immediately cancel the recommended petition. You will be prompted to provide a reason for the dismissal.
- Submit to Attendance Officer: send the petition for review by the AO.
- Home: return to the TDPS home screen.
Monitor Petition Status
Schools can monitor truancy petitions after making a request to the district office. Please see Truancy Petition - District Monitoring for more information.
